actually, it's a phrase I was using from the David Letterman show. A high school friend's father was interview in the audience and told Dave, "I'm from Concord, California. Where all the Smart prople are from." Presented him with a dollar bill ring and that was all.

We the children would say "Concord, California, Contra Costa County Cock." And if anyone needed a good cocking, it that county.

The sad part, Bill Graham died after leaving Concord. During WWII the OSS would ship important prisoners to east CoCo.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Graham_(promoter)

honored with a Bronze Star in Korea - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Bill_Graham.jpg

........include the promoter. Strictly speaking, the East Bay is generally a bit further East than Oak/Berk/etc. I know that geographically speaking, you could use the defn you are implying above, but when you talk to folks locally, someone living in Oak/Berk would not generally say they are from the EB. They would be refering to Conc/WC/PHill/Dublin/etc.

Ha--fair enough...Orinda I suppose, but that's just quibbling...nonetheless, we East East Bay types have plenty of political morons to match those from West East Bay areas like Oak/Berk/etc. you mentioned.

It seems people in SF think Oakland is in the East Bay, maybe because Oakland is east of the bay. For me Hayward and all around Mt Diablo is East Bay too, even if they are different temperatures and skin colors.

Right; I was just going on what the locals would say at least during the 70s and 80s...Oh ah is right that of course, everything on the other side of SF is properly the EB, but growing up there, most folks used it to distinguish the more intereior portions (ie, everything east of the Berk Hills and such).

No biggie of course...

Yeah my sister moved to Walnut Creek in the 80s and going there from SF was like visiting another (white) world.

And 415 is not 510, even if 925 tries to take EB for themselves.
